Q: Define what characteristics your favorite books share. Do they all have a kick a** heroine or is the hot love interest the Alpha Male?
I personally love alpha males, in stories. I feel they would be terrible in real life. When I read I really want the female to have her own strength. Yeah, the guy can help and be all tough but if he's always saving her she comes across as weak and my opinion of her lowers. Personally my favorite books are the ones where the girl can take care of herself but she still has that alpha male to help her out. Prime example: Divergent (by Veronica Roth). No doubt Tris can take care of herself, but Four is still there with his support, strength, and hotness. I guess I would say I am always on the lookout for a book that reaches a good compromise, if that fails bring out the tough chick. I have noticed in books where the girl is tough she still has a guy who will stand by her and helps. When it just has the alpha male the girl is weak and always needs saving.

I love books that have strong female protagonists. I do love when female characters have the guy to help out, but I appreciate it when it's balanced--when they can save each other or help each other, instead of it being one way or the other.
ReplyDeleteOhh I completly agree, i bet we have VERY similar taste in books :)
DeleteOMG okay great example!!! Yeah Tris is so strong and is not weak compared to Four, but Four can certainly hold his own too!!

Again, I totally agree... it makes them more mysterious and awesome :) Plus it adds a fun element that transports you further from reality. Thanks for the comment!!!
DeleteI couldn't agree more!! If you didn't notice most of my reviews so far are at least partly paranormal. :)

DeleteI totally agree with the werewolf analogy, I keep thinking of the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs:) But yes, alpha males and strong females are important to me too. And the Tris example from Divergent is awesome (love her!) I have to say that for me, I'm a sucker for a bad boy! Always have been, always will be:)
ReplyDeleteBad boys could take over the world and I am pretty sure 98% of women would set back and watch! :D
DeleteThat's why I LOVE Rose and Dimitri. They can both take care of each other.

Thanks for the feedback and the follow! :)
DeleteI totally agree. I love a big strong male, but the female definitely has to be strong too. I can't stand weak heroines.
